A surprise on the library shelf

Looking at a list of my top 10 favorite books, "Watership Down" by Richard Adams is at the very top. I have read and re-read it over the years and each time it does not disappoint. Recently I was at the library waiting to checkout books, not really focusing on anything when my eye happened to spot this, "Tales from Watership Down" published in 1996. What?! A sequel?! How had I not known about this? Of course it came home that day. But then it sat and sat. I just couldn't pick it up. What if if was not as good as the original? I finally was determined to read it after two notices from the library that they might want their book back soonish.

It's not really so much a sequel as a companion book. There are more stories of the sneaky hero of the rabbits, El-ahrairah, and more adventures for Hazel and his friends. You could sandwich this book between the last chapter and epilogue of "Watership Down." While I was scared to read it, I shouldn't have been. It was a delight to revisit old friends. My only problem with this book is that it just ends. Reprinting the epilogue from "Watership Down" would add closure/tie it up neatly.

British author. British men. I guess I should write about tea next.

Multiplying rabbits!

You know all the old jokes about rabbits and their reproductive habits?
Here's one: How are bunnies like calculators? They can multiply real fast!

Well, bunnies tend to multiply around my house too. I'm not just talking about the dust bunnies either. At the moment, Joseph has nine stuffed bunnies in play — there's Baby Bunny, Momma Bunny, Grey Bunny, Snow Bunny, New Bunny ('cause he was new duh), Blue Bunny, another Blue Bunny and several waiting for names. (Let's not even count the secondary puppy dogs, dinos and bears that cover his bed.)

Time to make more bunnies for Easter!

So clever! So easy to make! Oh Happy Day

From my favorite folks at Mr. Printables. They also
have a giant egg for coloring and an egg hunt
board game. Hope you asked the Easter Bunny
 to bring you more ink.

Clever Martha folks. Pompom noses (and tails) always please me.

These cuties are going to multiply all over my house. Besides
using it as a garland, I love the idea from Printable Paper Craft by Happy Thought
to attach them to sticks and decorating the yard.

I couldn't find an original source for this picture.
What a cute prop for Easter pictures with the kids.

Chicken bunny

We've got a new addition to the family ... introducing Chicken Bunny.

(Wouldn't that photo be a lot cuter with a kid in it?! Joseph didn't agree.)

It's a little Cadbury bunny that says bock, bock, bock. I loved the commercials as a kid and I love Cadbury creme eggs. So while Joseph thinks this bunny is for him, I said to Chris, you know I got it for me ... he already knew that.

So I turned to YouTube to introduce the kids to the Cadbury Bunny. One thing lead to another and now, the boys are big OK Go fans. Mommy is too. Their videos are awesome!

Enjoy!

DIY Easter: Bunny books

A while back, Silly Eagle Books posted a roundup of Easter egg books. It made me think, hey I should do a bunny book post. Yep, she did that too the next day. But I have a few different books in our collection and with Easter days away, now is a good time to share them. Since we've become obsessed with bunnies, adding bunny books to our collection has become my own obsession. (Of course, he doesn't want to read them since we read the same books night after night ... arrgghh)

I got this several years ago at my favorite library book sale. Will loved it. I loved it. "The pencil drew a rabbit ... the scissors made one too. Immediately the two rabbits were the best of friends." First published in 1982, board book in 2002. Sadly, this one may be out of print.

This is a cute series of seven books featuring finger puppets, published in 2009. Besides the bunny, there is a bear in his den and an owl in his tree, etc. We only have this bunny, but I think we really do need the bird version, "In My Nest."

One minute I was reading this post on Art Seiden, the next this book was on the way to my house from Etsy. While the story is okay, it's the rich, colorful illustrations from 1952 that I enjoy.

Another recent book sale find, published in 1983. It's cute ... the bunny gets cold so each page adds another layer to stay warm until at the end, he's too warm. Very simple text and pictures. I hope Joseph enjoys finding this one in his Easter basket.

Another book sale find for the Easter basket. Who can say no to bunnies drawn by Tomie dePaola? Originally published in 1989 as "Too Many Hopkins." This paperback is from 1997.

A 1963 classic that, thanks to Will, I can recite. We are big Richard Scarry fans.

I bought this book when it came out in 1995 (yes, well before I had kids) because it is the sweetest story of love between a parent and child. I'm not the only one — it's sold more than 20 million copies worldwide!

Found at the book sale with a matching "Quack." A great board book for younger readers. "Baby bunnies bump and bumble. Cottontails take a tumble." From 2005.

Do you have a favorite bunny book that I'm missing? Please comment while I go scour Etsy and eBay for a copy of Richard Scarry's "The Bunny Book."
